About Me

Today, Devan and his wife and CEO, Morgan Kline, have partnered with hundreds of other passionate fitness entrepreneurs who leverage their proprietary Burn Operating System to scale to to 10,000 global locations over the next decade. Burn Boot Camp is made of several companies all working together to offer create the “Burn Lifestyle”: Burn Nutrition, Burn Active, Burn Media Company, and Kline Brands are all family owned and operated.

In addition to running multiple businesses, Devan and Morgan document their lives as power couple CEO and Visionary on their social media channels which has more than 1.7M followers across all platforms. Devan and Morgan co-host “The Burn Boot Camp Podcast” and Devan’s self-published book, Stop Starting Over, has sold more than 15,000 copies and is a #1 Best Seller in the Health and Fitness category.

This had led to Devan sparking his public speaking career giving keynotes for Clean Eatz, Tutor Doctor, Weedman USA, Rocksteady Boxing, AR Workshops, and more.

Devan, Morgan and company have raised over $3M for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) and are highly involved in giving back to the communities where Burn Boot Camp calls home.

Devan was born in Battle Creek, Michigan in 1987 into a household of drug and alcohol addiction that led to a dangerous home environment. Before, he was 10 years old his mother left his father and moved him around the west coast 8 times before returning home to his live with his father. The following years brought 30+ criminal charges, significant jail time, and what Devan describes “a living hell” at home.

At 12, he grew so angry with his father for beating his mother and attempted to defend her and was met in return with blunt force. Charges for child abuse were filed and their relationship quickly grew apart. That same year Devan fell in love with Morgan and two years later she finally decided she liked him back.

To escape his home life, he became obsessed with sports and business. He built a snow shoveling franchise, a grass cutting franchise, a custom CD mixtape business, and worked summers roofing and wiring houses to save up $3,000 to buy his first car from a dealers auction. He then started a car flipping business on eBay starting with a 1984 Ford Probe and working his way up to a 2005 Ford Mustang while making $5,000 to take to college in a 2 year span. Meanwhile, earning all-state honors in two sports and a college scholarship to Central Michigan University to play baseball for the Chippewas.

Devan and Morgan would continue to date through college as he his focus shifted away from the car business and onto full-time baseball. He lived in the gym and was extremely dedicated to pitching. In the summer of 2009, he left school and signed a professional baseball contract with the San Francisco Giants organization. In his first season he was called into the office by Augusta Green Jackets Manager, Dave McNamara who delivered him great news, “you’re going to the All-Star Game, Congrats!” Two days later night he takes the mound, tears his forearm muscle, and never fully recovers. In 2011, the San Francisco Giants release him and lifelong dreams are shattered.

The first person he called was Morgan and she encouraged him, “Keep moving, look how far you’ve come, don’t look back now”. On a plane from Scottsdale, AZ to Naples, FL he decided to retire from baseball and pursue his passion for fitness. This spark was inspired by years of helping his “host families” live healthier, happier lives as he traveled all over the country playing ball.

In Naples, Devan worked at a Best Buy while he earned his CPT certification and finished his undergraduate degree simultaneously. No one in Devan’s family had ever graduated from college, so it was important to him to finish what he had started at Central Michigan. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. His fitness career began at Lifestyle Family Fitness where he started the first version of Burn Boot Camp called Lightning 900.

In 2012, Morgan’s job with Kellogg’s brought them to Charlotte, NC. With little money and fewer connections they were repeatedly denied commercial leasing space, so they subleased their first 5 spaces on their way to hitting $1M in sales in 2013. Devan spent his early days as the “go-to” health and fitness expert for Charlotte’s ABC, NBC, FOX, and The CW regional syndicates appearing in 200+ live TV segments. His energy, charisma, and knowledge landed him appearances on Day Time Tampa and Fox and Friends.

In 2014, Devan and Morgan got married, flipped all sub-leased gyms into brick and mortar, and Morgan transitioned away from Kellogg’s and put her full focus on the family business. Their PR efforts reached to Concord, NC and Durham, NC where they would open their pilot locations (#6, #7) which are still going strong today.

In October 2015, they launched the franchise program and awarded 200 territories in the first 18 months of their campaign. The Franchise Times named Burn Boot Camp in the “99th percentile of growth for all franchise companies that entered the market since 2010” and their story was picked up by Forbes Magazine. Devan says he has, “entrepreneurial DNA” and that became evident as Burn Nutrition, a fitness-specific meal and supplement business, and Burn Active, athleisure and accessory business, were born in the same year. Replicating what they have done for themselves, Devan and Morgan co-founded Burn Media Company and began working with companies such as Defiance Fuel, Clean Juice, HteaO, and other emerging franchise brands.

This quick success landed Devan on stages at IFA and one of three global winners of the 2018 IFA Next Gen Competition. In August of the same year, Devan wrote and self-published his first book, Stop Starting Over, laying foundational principles on physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual fitness which lays out the message Burn Boot Camp believes in. Later this year, the Kline’s made their first non-controlling investment into Defiance Fuel structured water.

Burn Boot Camp has flourished and opened 350+ locations with 500+ territories sold and plans to open thousands over the next decade. The brand has earned Entrepreneur Franchise 500 (x3 consecutive), Inc 5000’s Fastest Growing Companies in America (x3 consecutive), and #1 in Franchise Fast and Serious while growing revenue every year since inception. The Franchise Time’s named Burn Boot Camp the “Lone Grower in Fitness” for our 12.5% growth during the 2020/2021 Pandemic.

Devan and Morgan now host The Burn Boot Camp Podcast, which houses shows like #AskDevanAnything (lifestyle Q and A show), Trainer Talk (advice on health and fitness), Coffee with the Kline’s (live Q and A with Devan and Morgan), Monday’s with Morgan (weekly motivational talks), and the Keep Moving with the Kline’s Vlog that stories the Kline’s journey as CEO and Visionary. Today, the Kline’s and their brands have collected more than 1.7 million followers across YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, Apple Podcast, Spotify, Google Play, Weekly Email Newsletter and more.

Devan’s life ambition is to bring Major League Baseball to the Carolinas so his family of five can spend the rest of their days in pursuit of the World Series trophy he never earned as a player while passing on the operations of Burn Boot Camp to employees and children.
